Not the usual fluff
I just discovered your website via a link from the “This is True” newsletter.
Doug, you have a great thing going here. The hard and measured style is such a welcome change from the self-serving fluff usually found in the media on this subject.
I’ve been sober since 1993.
I come from a family that (as the joke could go) put the ‘dys’ in dysfunction. Both my sisters and I began drinking in high school: not on a daily basis, but never just to get a buzz; always to get plastered.
I mostly drank just to feel comfortable in my own skin. Does that make sense? The emotional abuse was pretty cutting and nearly constant, so the booze would help drive that away briefly.
I found out last year that our mom would regularly dose us as infants by putting vodka in our baby formula. This would put us to sleep, and she could watch her soaps in quiet. As you may surmise, learning that little fact cleared up a ton of questions in my mind.
I’ve suscribed to your newsletter, and am looking forward to reading it. I’ve passed on you sites URL to a few friends, and they’ll probably sign on too.
Keep up the great work Doug.
Bill
Dear Bill,
Thanks so much for the wonderful accolades, Bill. I really do appreciate it, along with the referrals to friends, in a world in which the pundits and “rest” of the public doesn’t have a clue.
Welcome!
Doug
