Is marijuana addiction worse than the others?
Dan writes: ” Is regular marajuana use sufficent proof of drug addiction, in conjuction with the irresponsible and manipulative behaviors typical of addiction? I have read elsewhere that marajuana is not an addictive drug, but I have a friend I strongly suspect, based on what I learned in PreventTragedy, to be some kind of drug addict and marajuana is the only thing I can pin him on so far. (I have just ordered “Drugs, Drunks, and Debits” from Amazon, so if this is discussed in the book and you are too busy to discuss it here, I will know in a couple weeks.)
P.S. Man, am I dumb! I’ve been subscribed to that newsletter since it started and have only just tonight seen this friend of mine as a likely drug addict although his odd behaviors have been going on since I’ve known him. Well, sometimes it’s a surprisingly big step between learning and applying knowledge.”
Thanks for writing. Yes, it does seem a big step between learning and applying. Especially when it’s a paradigm shift in thinking.
I suspect your friend may be combining dope with another drug. Most dopers are underachievers and really do not engage in the classic power-seeking behaviors of the alcoholic. However, when they do dope and something else, all the misbehaviors seem to surface.
I mention dope only a few times in Drunks because of these observations. While not a good drug for the addict (and it can be very physically addicting–just ask any doper who quit what happened about the 30th day of abstinence), it’s just not as bad as other drugs are–for the addicted.
